The District recognizes that families may, on occasion, wish for their student to transfer from the school bus to a family member’s vehicle during the ferry crossing from L’Etete to Deer Island. While this is not the District’s preferred practice, we understand that individual circumstances may lead to such requests. For safety and accountability reasons, student transfers are only considered on the L’Etete to Deer Island crossing and will not be permitted on the Deer Island to L’Etete crossing.
This option is available only to students in Grades 6–12, as students at these grade levels are expected to have the maturity and independence required to follow safety procedures during the transfer process. For safety reasons, students will not be permitted to leave the school bus while it is at either ferry landing prior to boarding.
To ensure the safety of all students, clear communication and coordination between parents/guardians, the school, and transportation staff is essential. Any request must be submitted in advance, and approval is subject to District review. The District’s priority is always student safety and maintaining secure transportation procedures.
